Homemade Bacon Jam
Ingredients
BACON JAM
- 1 lb bacon, diced
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 2 –3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tbsp hot sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup maple syrup
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
FOR SERVING
- Burgers
- Sandwiches
- Toast
Instructions
- Heat a large skillet over medium heat and add the diced bacon. Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the bacon becomes crispy and the fat is fully rendered.
- Remove the crispy bacon from the skillet using a slotted spoon, leaving about 1–2 tbsp of bacon grease in the pan. Add the diced onion and sauté for 5–7 minutes until soft and lightly caramelized.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 1–2 minutes until fragrant. Be careful not to burn the garlic as it cooks quickly in the hot bacon fat.
- Add the cooked bacon back into the skillet along with the hot sauce, brown sugar, maple syrup, and apple cider vinegar. Stir thoroughly so everything is evenly coated.
- Reduce the heat to medium-low and simmer for 10–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the mixture thickens into a sticky jam consistency. The sauce will continue to thicken slightly as it cools.
- Remove from the heat and allow the bacon jam to cool for a few minutes before serving. Spoon generously onto burgers, sandwiches, or toast and enjoy warm.
