Ingredients

SLOPPY JOE MIXTURE

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp all purpose rub
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 3 –4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 –4 tbsp tomato paste
  • 2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
  • 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • Salt, to taste
  • Black pepper, to taste

FRIES

  • 1 lb frozen fries
  • 4 –6 slices American cheese

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven or air fryer according to the package instructions for the frozen fries, typically 400–425°F. Cook the fries in a single layer for 18–22 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
  • While the fries cook, place a large skillet over medium heat and add the ground beef along with the all purpose rub. Cook for 6–8 minutes, breaking the meat apart with a spatula, until fully browned and no pink remains, then transfer the beef to a plate and set aside.
  • In the same skillet, add the diced onion and cook for 4–5 minutes until soft and translucent. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another 30–60 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn it.
  • Return the cooked beef to the skillet and add the tomato paste, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, mustard, and beef broth. Stir thoroughly and let the mixture simmer over medium-low heat for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally, until thickened to a rich, saucy consistency. The longer it simmers, the thicker and more concentrated the flavor becomes.
  • Once the fries are crispy, transfer them to a large serving platter and immediately layer slices of American cheese over the hot fries. Spoon the warm sloppy joe mixture generously over the top, allowing the heat to melt the cheese into every bite.
  • Serve immediately while hot and bubbly, making sure each serving gets plenty of saucy beef and melty cheese. Enjoy right away for the best combination of crispy fries and rich sloppy joe flavor.
