Ingredients

SNACK MIX

  • 12 oz Crispix cereal
  • 12.4 oz Cheez-It crackers
  • 8 oz mini pretzels
  • 6.6 oz Goldfish crackers

SPICY BBQ BUTTER

  • 3 sticks unsalted butter
  • 3 tbsp BBQ rub
  • 3 tsp all-purpose seasoning, salt, pepper & garlic
  • 1 1/2 tsp brown sugar
  • 3 tsp dried dill weed
  • 1 1/2 tsp cayenne pepper

Instructions

  • Preheat your oven or smoker to 250°F, setting up for indirect heat if using a smoker. Add the Crispix cereal, Cheez-It crackers, mini pretzels, and Goldfish crackers to a large mixing bowl and gently toss everything together.
  • Melt the butter in a small saucepan over low heat or in a microwave-safe bowl. Add the BBQ rub, all-purpose seasoning, brown sugar, dried dill weed, and cayenne pepper, then stir thoroughly until the seasonings are evenly incorporated into the melted butter.
  • Slowly pour the spicy BBQ butter over the dry ingredients while gently tossing the mixture. Continue mixing until the cereal, crackers, and pretzels are evenly coated with the seasoned butter.
  • Spread the Chex Mix evenly across a large baking sheet, roasting pan, or disposable foil pan. Place it in the oven or smoker at 250°F and cook for 2 hours.
  • Stir the Chex Mix thoroughly every 20–30 minutes while it cooks, bringing the pieces from the bottom of the pan to the top so everything cooks evenly. Continue cooking until the mixture is toasted, dry, and crispy.
  • Remove the Spicy BBQ Chex Mix from the oven or smoker and let it cool completely before serving, allowing it to crisp up even more as it cools. Serve immediately or store in an airtight container at room temperature to keep it fresh and crunchy.
