BEEF MIXTURE
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 large onion diced
- 2-3 frozen beef burger patties
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 4 slices American cheese
SANDWICH
- 2 hoagie rolls
- 2 tbsp mayonnaise
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 cup shredded lettuce
- 1 tomato sliced
Preheat a large griddle or cast iron skillet to medium-high heat, about 400°F. Add the oil and diced onion, sautéing for 4–5 minutes until soft and translucent with light browning on the edges.
Place the frozen burger patties directly onto the hot griddle next to the onions and cook for 2–3 minutes per side until a crust forms. Use a sturdy spatula to flip them once the underside is well browned.
Begin chopping the patties into small pieces using your spatula, mixing them together with the sautéed onions. Season evenly with salt, black pepper, and garlic powder, then continue cooking for another 3–4 minutes until fully cooked and slightly crispy in spots.
Spread the chopped beef mixture into an even layer and lay the American cheese slices over the top. Allow the cheese to melt for 1–2 minutes until fully gooey and coating the meat.
Lightly toast the hoagie rolls on the griddle for 30–60 seconds until warm and slightly crisp. Spread mayonnaise and ketchup on the inside of each roll, then layer with shredded lettuce and sliced tomato.
Spoon the hot chopped beef and cheese mixture into each roll, pressing it in slightly to pack it tight. Wrap each sandwich in parchment paper or foil and let rest for 2–3 minutes to steam together before slicing and serving.
