Ingredients

FRIES

  • 1/2 bag frozen fries
  • 3 slices American cheese
  • Seasoning salt to taste

CARAMELIZED ONIONS

  • 2 sweet onions diced
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp salt

SPREAD

  • 1/3 cup mayo
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp dill pickle relish
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp chives optional

Instructions

  • Heat a large skillet over medium-low heat and add the butter and oil. Once melted, add the diced onions and salt, stirring to coat the onions evenly in the fat.
  • Cook the onions slowly, stirring every 3–4 minutes, until they soften and develop a deep golden brown color, about 25–30 minutes total. If they begin browning too quickly, reduce the heat slightly, then remove from heat once fully caramelized.
  • While the onions cook, prepare the spread by combining the mayo, ketchup, dill pickle relish, Worcestershire sauce, and chives in a small bowl. Stir until fully combined, then cover and refrigerate so the flavors can meld while the fries cook.
  • Preheat your oven or air fryer according to the frozen fries package directions, usually around 425°F for an oven. Spread the fries in a single layer on a baking sheet and cook for 18–22 minutes, flipping halfway through, until crispy and golden.
  • Transfer the hot fries to a serving plate immediately after cooking and sprinkle with seasoning salt to taste. While the fries are still hot, layer the American cheese slices over the top so they begin to melt from the heat.
  • Top the cheesy fries generously with the caramelized onions, then drizzle the chilled spread over the top using as much or as little as you prefer. Serve immediately while everything is hot, melty, and loaded with flavor.
